This week, photojournalist Alva Solomon takes us to the Vreed-en-Hoop foreshore on a fascinating journey to gather a glimpse of the landscape and ruins of an old settlement.
The area is awe inspiring and filled with evidence of the earlier occupants of Demerara, where structures stand reclaimed by natural vegetation. But now, the zone houses the popular “Plastic City”, an impoverished community close to the Vreed-en-Hoop foreshore where some of Guyans’s poorest thrive. These are the images we captured.
